Dean R. Hoge, Ph.D.

In Memoriam:

Our colleague, Dean R. Hoge (Ph.D., Harvard University, 1970) was a Professor of Sociology at the Catholic University of America for numerous years. Specializing in the sociology of religion, throughout his career he carried out numerous studies of clergy, church trends, young adults, or the finances of religious bodies. Among his books are: Evolving Visions of the Priesthood (co-authored, 2003), Experiences of Priests Ordained Five to Nine Years (2006), or American Catholics Today (co-authored, 2007). In addition, he published over 100 articles and chapters of books.

On September 13th, 2008, our colleague Dean Hoge passed away in the hospital after long months fighting cancer. In order to honor our beloved friend, as people started responding to the news his death, we have created a page with articles about his life and activity, which we would kindly invite you to visit.
