George J. Martin

George Martin has been an Associate Professor with the School of Architecture and Planning at The Catholic University of America since August 2002, following twelve years as a member of the adjunct faculty; between 2005-08, he also served as the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Studies for the School. Assoc. Prof. Martin’s teaching focuses on issues related to construction materials, methods, and architectural design. Besides this academic work, George Martin is a professional construction manager affiliated with Construction Management Incorporated of Virginia, a company whose vice president he was before joining the faculty of the School of Architecture.

George Martin is a third generation Washington builder. His grandfather, George C. Martin Sr., and father, George C. Martin Jr. (CUA BArch 1959) were leaders in the Washington DC construction industry. A major portion of the family’s building portfolio were churches (Martin Brothers Inc., George C. Martin Inc.). Martin is continuing his family’s involvement with the construction of churches by his involvement in the School of Architecture’s graduate concentration in Sacred and Cultural Studies, and through his research in contemporary Catholic church building.
