Merylann (Mimi) J. Schuttloffel, Ph.D.

Dr. Schuttloffel's 35 years of experience as schoolteacher, school counselor, and elementary school principal constitute the source of her interest in the integration of educational beliefs into practice, as captured by the concept of reflective practice. Her research interests, therefore, cover areas such as reflective practice in leadership, innovation and school change, the transformation of educational beliefs and practice, and Catholic identity issues. More specific topics include the recruitment, formation and retention of school and diocesan leaders, as well as the role of leadership in defining Catholic identity, and in integrating it into Catholic schooling.

Dr. Schuttloffel has served as a curriculum consultant to numerous organizations, including the National Institutes of Health, Parents for Academic and Cultural Enrichment, (a Native-American, not-for-profit organization), the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Consortium for Catholic Identity and the National Catholic Educational Association.

In the realm of public education she has been a participant, observer, and researcher in numerous projects directed at educational policy reform. Her recent work on charter schools and on the issue of public funds for vouchers provided additional opportunities for educational leadership. Among other writings, she is the author of several NCEA publications, including Character and the Contemplative Principal (1999), and Report on the Study the Future of Catholic School Leadership (2003).
