Michael V. Smith, Ph.D., is Associate Professor and Head of the Music Education Division of The Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at The Catholic University of America.

Smith writes and researches in the area of developmental mentoring, particularly as a method for professional induction. He has developed facilitated mentoring programs for several state and national professional organizations. His research interests also include integrated instruction using the arts, including music and other interdisciplinary methods. He also has interest in surveying and assessing current and best practice music education methods in Catholic education. He has partnered recently with the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA) and the National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) in this effort.

Dr. Smith has forty years of experience as an educator, including experience at all levels of instruction (elementary, secondary and high education) and in rural, urban and suburban settings. He conducts The Catholic University of America Wind Ensemble and serves as Organist and Choirmaster at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kensington, Maryland.
